  • Characteristics & Behaviors of a Revitalization Leader

    Principles

    • Read: Pastor Unique: Becoming a Turnaround Leader by Brown, Penfold, and Westra

    • Assignment: Outline the characteristics and behaviors of a revitalization leader

    • Assignment: Evaluate which characteristics are your strengths and which are not

    Praxis

    • Meet with congregational leadership to evaluate, discuss, and adjust the Lead Pastor’s responsibilities based on the characteristics and behaviors of a revitalization leader

    • Produce a job description for the Lead Pastor based on the characteristics and behaviors of a revitalization leader.

  • Change Management & Conflict Navigation

    Principles

    • Read: Change: How Organizations Achieve Hard-to-Imagine Results in Uncertain and Volatile Times by John Kotter

    • Read: Leading Now found HERE

    • Assignment: SDI Assessment

    • Assignment: Evaluate areas of change needed in your congregation

    • Assignment: Outline a pathway for affecting change in your congregation

    Praxis

    • Meet with congregational leadership to identify one change area and develop a plan to execute the necessary change

    • With congregational leadership and revitalization coach, explore the potential conflict scenarios for the proposed change and discuss multiple conflict resolution strategies

  • Mission, Vision, Values & Goal Development

    Principles

    • Read: Re:Vision by Aubrey Malphurs and Gordon Penfold

    • Assignment: Define the major components of determining mission, vision, and values

    Praxis

    • Create a mission, vision, and values document with the congregational leadership

  • Understanding, Developing, and Equipping One’s Divine Design

    Principles

    • Read: Living Your Strengths by Winseman, Clifton, and Liesveld

    • Assignment: CliftonStrengths assessment

    • Assignment: Create a Bible study based on Ephesians 4:11-13

    • Discussion: Leadership and Follower Divine Design Development

    • Discussion: Members vs. Multipliers

    Praxis

    • Facilitate CliftonStrengths assessment with congregational leadership

    • Discuss the outcome of the CliftonStrengths assessment with congregational leadership and how individual strengths work together for overall mission accomplishment

    • Create a movement pathway for equipping the church that includes sessions on the overview of C&MA, mission, vision, and values, Divine Design development, and a focus on multiplication

  • Starting with Acceleration in Mind

    Principles

    • Read: Building a Discipling Culture by Mike Breen

    • Assignment: Meet with the ASE Church Multiplication Director and Global Mobilization Director to learn about multiplication and global missions initiatives

    • Assignment: Articulate what a discipling culture looks like in your context

    • Assignment: Discover local outreach & community partnership opportunities

    Praxis

    • Develop a discipling strategy with the congregational leadership

    • Choose a local outreach partner for the next year and engage a strategy to ensure congregational involvement

    • Identify and meet with a “network” team from the congregation that will develop a multiplication strategy for future expansion

    • Invite the ASE Global Mobilization Director to meet with congregational leadership and choose a Global Mobilization Partner for your congregation

  • Communicating on Purpose

    Principles

    • Read: Communicating for a Change by Andy Stanley

    • Assignment: Create a sermon preparation structure

    • Assignment: Visit other congregations in your area that seem to be attractive to people and take notes on what you experience

    • Assignment: Research different opportunities for your congregation to have a public profile and presence in your area

    Praxis

    • Identify and meet with a “network” team from the congregation that will redesign your worship gathering structure and report back to the congregation leadership

    • Prepare a year’s worth of sermons based on the congregation's mission, vision, and values

    • Design a marketing plan for public communication of your congregation and report back to the congregational leadership
